Web & Internet Properties

1.  To have viable web & internet presence, it is necessary to secure domain name, blog name, twitter name and many others portal/social network names.
2.  To avoid confusion & potential conflict, it is important to secure name across many platform and web properties.
3.  The scale at which the business can grow and expand is often limited by the extent of the domain and web properties.  If such online intellectual property is confined to a single language or single country, then that will be a limiting factor.
4.  Another consideration is that trademark is confined to a single country.  Multiple filing in different countries are tedious, not to forget the return of each country maybe different.
5.  It is good to begin with a single online property and register it on many platform, social network, email and blog etc.  Then for a period of time, ie 6 months, develop that particular online property.  Growing awareness and business.
6.  Regularly updating and incrementally improve the online property in a steady timeline is a strategy to keep rolling out fresh attractions to customers.
7.  Coordinating the roll out incrementally using different platform and mediums enable retention of customers contact through different touch points.
8.  The platforms and different medium should focus on different angle such as newsletter for blog, image for social network, short update for twitter, etc.

Tools in Web Design & WebSite

1.  Designing a web business can be a tedious process that can take wrong turns & deliver wrong results if tools are not carefully chosen.
2.  Tools are designed to use in certain ways and deliver certain results.
3.  Example of these tools are CMS (Joomla, Drupal, blogger), apps (Facebook Comments, Like button, + buttons, email, counters, graphics, scripts).
4.  A good idea is to consider the result or objective of the web site or business page, if a particular page is to be added tools only.
5.  Then the likely result of the tools when deployed.
6.  Then the manageability of the tools.  Updates, content generated, disaster recovery, implication of users generated content, control over long term period etc.
7.  How the tools would evolve or the website would evolve should also be considered.  In future, the tools may no longer be suitable or the website may evolve into something that the tools cannot accommodate.
8.   It is best to start with the fewest tools collection possible and focus on the most impact that can be delivered.
